How to Make Easy Chocolate Oreo Truffles

Laura Ward
You can make a batch of chocolate oreo truffles in no time at all. No baking required, either! Purchase one box of oreos, one 8-oz package of room temperature cream cheese and one bag if semi-sweet chocolate chip morels. First, put all of the oreos in a ziplock sandwich bag and crush with a hammer or meat tenderizing tool. After the oreos have been crushed, mix in the package of cream cheese. Stir the cream cheese into the oreos until they are completely combined and have a play doh type consistency. Form the oreo mixture into small, bite size balls. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips thoroughly. There should not be any lumps and it should be very creamy. Using two forks on either side of the oreo ball, gently lower the ball into the melted chocolate and cover completely. Once the ball has been covered in melted chocolate, place it on a wax-paper covered baking sheet. After all of the balls have been placed on the baking sheet, refrigerate the balls until the melted chocolate has become hard. The balls with then take on a truffle taste.

For variations of the chocolate oreo truffles, you can use mint flavored or peanut butter flavored cookies instead of the oreos. Also, use white chocolate or dark chocolate according to your taste instead of the semi-sweet chocolate chip morsels. You can also drizzle white chocolate over top of the melted chocolate for additional color and beauty. Chopped nuts or candies can also be sprinkled over the top of the melted chocolate before placing the truffles into the refriegerator.

These truffles make the perfect gift for teachers, co-workers, hairdressers or anyone that just loves chocolate! Put wax paper in the bottom of a nice decorative tin and place the truffles over top of the wax paper. Cover the top with more wax paper to preserve freshness. The truffle recipe is an extrememly easy recipe that kids can help make. Clean up is simple, ingredients are failry inexpensive and the process of making them is very easy and does not consume very much time.
