How to Make an Easy and Inexpensive Birdbath

Pearlygates
Our feathered friends are really very easy to please. A shallow container with clean water is all they need for a birdbath, to drink and bathe. One of the easiest and inexpensive ways to make this birdbath, is to use what you have. If you don't have something laying around. It's sure to be found at a thrift store or garage sale.

One of the most unique birdbaths that I have seen made, was a old metal children's snow saucer. It was simply placed in a garden, surrounded by Black Eyed Susan's and Purple Coneflowers.

Things you may have around to make a shallow container

From the kitchen an enamel wash basin, a pie tin, cake pan, soup bowl, old wooden bowl, cast iron pan, spaghetti bowl, wok, deep dish pizza pan.

A tire rim, old light fixture lamp, a large pot cover, a large ashtray, clay saucer, metal snow saucer, hubcap, old satellite dish, garbage can cover.

Things you may have around to use as a base

A old metal kitchen strainer, a flower pot, a bucket, stump, an old chair, decorative pedestal, bricks, a old lamp base, plant stand, old milk can, tobacco stand, four by four piece of wood, a pillar, a large vase, an old pot, a wooden crate, an old ashtray stand, a tire, a washtub, a old wooden potty chair, a old light fixture. (looks good mounted to a wall or tree too)

Inexpensive Birdbath from Old Clay Pots and Saucers

Stack four or five different sized clay pots upside down, from largest to smallest to form the base. Glue a large clay saucer on the top of the smallest clay pot, with a glue such as GE Silicon II.

As you can see there are so many things you can use to make an easy and inexpensive birdbath. So head to your basement or garage and put one together. The birds will thank you.
