Easy, Moist Crock Pot Pork Roast with a Delicious Browned Top

For the busy mom, nothing beats crock pot cooking. Not only are the recipes easy-to-follow and essentially foolproof, cooking is effortless. The downside, however, is that the crock pot can't quite seem to produce that delicious, crunchy crust that oven cooking can. What good is a moist roast without a flavorful, crunchy top? Using your broiler, fewer ingredients and much less effort, you can create the same browned effect as an oven cooked roast, with an even moister middle.

What you'll need:

2 Cups Apple Juice

1 Cup Favorite Barbecue Sauce

Garlic salt, Salt and Pepper to taste

5 Quart Crock Pot

Wash your loin under cold water, rubbing off any excess ice (if defrosted). Place your pork roast in the crock pot, fat side down. Since you will remove the fat later, you'll want to season the non-fatty side instead. Pour two cups of apple juice over your roast. Then season your roast with garlic salt, salt and pepper, as needed. If you've got a favorite seasoning, feel free to substitute. Place the lid over your roast and turn the crock pot to low. It should cook for about 3.5 to 4 hours, depending on the size of your roast. Do not overcook.

Minutes before the roast is done, turn on the broiler. Place the rack about 6 inches beneath the broiler. When the roast is about 10 minutes from being done, scrap off any excess fat from the top and sides and remove the roast, placing it in a baking dish. Baste the roast with the cup of barbecue size, along the top and sides. Then broil for about 10 minutes. This gives is that perfectly brown crust and crunchy top, which when contrasted with the moist meat, makes for an incredible pork roast.

Remove from the oven and let sit for about five minutes. Then cut. Remove the fat from the bottom of each slice and serve.

This sounds absolutely delicious. I'll have to try something like this in my crock pot next time we fix pork roast.

I love pork roast, but I have to pick at the "crispies" when it comes out of the oven. I mean, I need the fat!
