How to Make an Easy Outdoor Planter Table

Anyone Can Do It!

Crystal Ray
It's always handy to have a small table out on a deck or a porch, especially when sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine or a pleasant evening breeze. It's nice to have a place to set a drink, a snack, a book, or anything else used outside when relaxing in a comfortable outdoor chair. It's even nicer to have a table that doubles as a planter and adds beauty to the exterior of the home.

One of the prettiest outdoor tables I've seen was made with an outdoor planter, and although it looked far from cheap, it was something that absolutely anyone could make. This planter was made using a strawberry pot, and it was filled with beautiful bright pink wave petunias and vinca vines. The flowers and vines cascaded down the sides of the strawberry pot, and the clear glass top of the table displayed them clearly for all to see. It was the most practical work of outdoor art I've ever seen, and it was definitely the most unique and creative.

If you're searching for an easy outdoor table, and if you appreciate the beauty of flowers and have time to care for them, consider making this easy outdoor planter table. It will become a practical part of your outdoor deck, porch, or sitting area, and you're sure to get many compliments. Neighbors and guests won't believe how easy it is to make, and everyone will want this for their personal outdoor haven.

Necessary Supplies

To make this easy outdoor planter table you'll need a strawberry pot of appropriate size and height, rich organic potting soil, small stones for drainage, pretty polished stones or other natural items for decoration, a round piece of tempered glass that's twice the size of the diameter of the strawberry pot, and plants of your choice.

For those who've never heard of a strawberry pot, it's a large clay pot that resembles a vase, and it has several open areas along the sides for plants. It's typically used for planting strawberries, hence the name strawberry pot. It's also used quite often for cactus-like plants commonly known as hens and chicks. Any type of cascading flower, plant, or vine looks lovely when planted in a strawberry pot.

Procedure and Care

Begin by filling the bottom of the strawberry pot with a few inches of ordinary gravel for drainage. This will help prevent roots from rotting if the planter isn't able to properly drain.

Next, fill the planter about two inches from the top with rich organic potting soil, and top it off with pretty polished stones, lava rock, marble chips, sea shells, or interesting natural objects of your choice. They will be seen through the tabletop, so make sure they're attractive and small enough to fit in the planter beneath the glass.

The next step is to plant flowers and foliage of your choice in the open areas along the sides of the planter. Generously water them after planting, and remember to water them often since container plants generally require frequent watering and a little extra care.

The last step is to top the strawberry pot planter with a disc of tempered glass to create an outdoor table. It should be heavy enough to stay in place, and it will be perfect for outdoor use. With proper care it will last indefinitely.

No other outdoor planter will be this unique and beautiful, especially when considering the price. The materials will cost far less than any other outdoor ready-made planter or table of similar quality. Make this one of your projects for the coming season. This beautiful outdoor planter table will provide many years of natural beauty and practical use.

You make it sound fairly simple. But I know I would still need help if I made an outdoor planter table.
