How to Make an Easy Window Box for Pots and Plants
Supplies for your homemade window box shelf
A 12 inch wooden board about 1 inch thick
Two wood brackets that you can buy at the lumber store to rest your window box shelf on. You could make this if you are a talented carpenter, but they're almost just as cheap and easy to buy premade.
Directions to make your window box shelf
Measure the diameter of the plant pots that you want to put in your shelf about. Measure about 3 inches down from the top of the pot.
Then cut a corresponding hole the same diameter in your board. I made ours with 8 inch holes and was able to get three pots in the window box. This will require some math and measuring carefully to get an even look.
After you're sure you have the right circles drawn, cut them out with a electric saw. My husband has a table saw and used a circle cutter to remove the circles. But he said you could use a hand held electric saw like a jigsaw.
Paint your window box shelf and brackets and let dry.
Screw the brackets to the underside of the board and then screw the brackets to the wall below your window.
Insert pots and enjoy a beautiful and easy window box.
