How to Eat Buckhead's "Bucket Shop Cafe" Chicken Rolls

They've been featured in one of Atlanta's many Restaurant Week festivities. They are officially called North Highland Pub Chicken Rolls. And though they can be exclusively found in three particular Atlanta locations, they are most frequently enjoyed at the Bucket Shop, directly across from Lenox Mall in Buckhead.

Anyone who has had the Bucket Shop's chicken rolls understands the delicate balance of flavors involved in this oh so tasty treat. I know what you're thinking: you've had one greasy appetizer; you've had them all. But this just isn't the case with the Bucket Shop's chicken rolls.

Something about these little guys is so addictive that they warrant a special trip. Perhaps it's all that wonderful gooey cheesiness. Or maybe it's that spicy tangy Tex-Mex sauce. (What is that stuff anyway?) In any event, to really appreciate the Bucket Shop's amazing chicken rolls, consider these tips...

1. Order a salad. Preferably, the Caesar salad. The Caesar salad is uncomplicated in a way that only enhances the flavor of the chicken rolls. Plus, let's face it; these little egg rolls aren't the healthiest thing you could eat. Adding a little bit of roughage to your meal is crucial.

2. Eat them while hot. Tssst! Oh! Aaa-Ouch! These are the sounds you will make if you attempt to shove one of these bad boys into your mouth as soon as they hit the table. Nonetheless, you must eat the North Highland Pub Chicken Rolls while they are hot. To do so involves striking a delicate balance between cooling them with your mouth, and savoring the bubbling contents beneath the egg roll wrapper.

3. Fight the urge to eat them all. The Bucket Shop's chicken rolls are served in a trio. But they are so large that they are sliced in half, more than enough for an entire table to share. The problem is you won't want to share. But you must fight the urge to scarf down all of that cheesiness on your own. Your stomach will thank you later.

4. Reheat them ASAP. If you have followed the instructions of Number Two, this means that you should have some chicken rolls left over to take home. It is incredibly important that you reheat these rolls almost immediately. Anyone who has ordered egg rolls from a Chinese restaurant knows that this particular food does not keep well. As such, you will want to reheat them soon. Do not leave them for a day or two; and if possible use the standard oven instead of the microwave. Anything to recapture the integrity of those initial first bites.

Bon Apetit!
