Coupons or Not? Does ValPak Help?

It is not a surprise the number one issue of the election was the economy. No issue is more personal to many than their ability to make ends meet from day to day or maintain their current status. With the costs of many items rising in the past year, one of the first places to cut the budget is learning how to eat cheap. Rising costs have forced many to rethink their food choices and decide whether to eat out or cook themselves. Restaurants are starting to suffer lower profits with many deciding their "eat cheap" approach begins by eating at home. Others contemplating how to eat cheap have changed their eating out approach to drop higher priced restaurants for lower cost ones the results of which are shown in McDonald's recent increase in profits. Having a dollar menu lunch versus a meal at a higher cost restaurant can be step one in learning how to eat cheap.

Valpak, a major provider of store and service type coupons, announced their items will be displayed by Microsoft Live search as users are searching for a business. Valpak offers restaurant coupons which may help customers to eat cheap at their favorite restaurant. The familiar blue Valpak envelope is distributed to households all over but Valpak.com and Microsoft live search take it a step further offering users the options to eat cheap using showing possible restaurant coupons when they search for an item.

For those who are considering how to eat cheap by cooking at home, there are several approaches to consider. Cutting coupons from the local newspaper may or may not help. It depends on what item is being bought. Many store brand products can help customers eat cheap in today's economy even more so than the brand name product cost after the coupon is deducted. Customers considering how to eat cheap should compare the costs of the brand name item to the generic or store brand before making a purchase.

Another means of determining how to eat cheap is to menu plan. Menu planning may seem difficult at first but it gets easier as you do it more frequently. Menu planning to reduce the food budget begins with considering what you have on hand to work with. Planning to eat cheap is easier if some of the items needed are already on hand. Survey the cabinets, refrigerator and freezer to decide what is on hand to make a meal. Using the items found, decide how to eat cheap by buying the missing elements for meal making. Having pasta sauce but no pasta means buying one thing instead of two. Knowing what you have on hand helps to eat cheap because you will cut the grocery list down.
