How to Eat Healthier Without Tasting Healthier

A Guide to Better Nutrition We All Can Follow

It is a well known fact that if it tastes good, it is bad for you. This works in reverse as well. There are a few ways to sneak some goodness into your diet and keep the flavor of the badness. There are several different ingredients that you can use that offer the powerful vitamins and antioxidants while not sacrificing flavors. The trick is to get the right amounts and the correct combinations. The thing that many people fail to realize is that there are nutrients in everything that you eat or drink, except water. The real trick is to get the right combinations in a day that will give you the optimum values that you need. Most of us, especially men and kids, just need a little extra added into the foods that we enjoy. Not many people out there will choke down some nasty dish simply for its health benefits. It is so much easier to just hit a drive thru. With all of the "healthy" options they are coming out with, it is easy to fall into that false sense of fitness while staying with the ease of fast food. Not all of these alternate choices are healthy though. Many are processed and come with sides and condiments that completely negate all the health benefits that you may have received. The battle for a balanced diet is not hopeless though. Here are a couple small changes that you can make to any recipes that will help to boost your health, immunity, and nutrition.

One big step towards a healthy world is to use spinach. Many people detest this nutritional powerhouse, but it is very easy to sneak in. The chlorophyll levels that are contained in spinach are off the charts and it has been proven that chlorophyll can prevent many illnesses, including some cancers, and help your body to rejuvenate itself. The great thing about this power vegetable is that it is virtually tasteless when mixed with other foods. You can add this to cookies, shakes, smoothies, meatloaf, burgers, gravies, sauces, or just about any other recipe that you can come across. The trick is to add it in smaller amounts. If added to four different dishes at one fourth of a serving, you have reached a full serving and no one will notice the change. When you add it to meats or other vegetables, you can chop it up or even put it in whole. When it comes to cookies and desserts though, you may want to puree it first. You will at least want to chop it very fine so that you do not have chunks of leafy greens in your dish. When pureed or liquified, it may put a slight greenish tint to the food, but this is nearly imperceptible. This is one great way to sneak in a little added nutrition to any meal.

One more trick that you can use is to add vitamin supplements to your dishes. You can pack in extra vitamins, minerals, or other nutrients in any food. This is a great method to completely tailor your diet to your families needs. If you know that your family needs more vitamin C, you can either buy vitamins, use ingredients high in C, or get some liquid C and add it to your recipes. You can do this with any supplement. Just about every added nutrient that you can imagine can be found in a liquid or powdered form. From omega-3 to cabbage juice, vitamins A to zinc, and everything in between can be added to your cuisine to boost your family's health and wellness. Many of these can be mixed in a manner that they will not effect the taste of your dishes. No one ever has to know that they are secretly getting healthier with every bite they eat.

There are also some changes that you can make in the types of food that you use in your cooking. By substituting some healthier versions of the things that you are already using, you can become healthier with no change to your existing methods. One example of this is to use dark chocolate in all of your chocolate dishes. You can add this to just about any dessert as well. The darker the chocolate, the healthier it is for you. If you stay in the 60 to 75% dark area or more, you can feel a lot better as you indulge. This is one key that many diets do not discuss. Not only can this make you feel better and healthier, but it also cuts the cravings for sweets and helps you to stay on track. Using fresh vegetables instead of canned or frozen will also boost the benefits that you receive from these foods. One thing that you can also do is purchase everything fresh the day that you are going to cook it. You could buy two days worth of groceries at the most. The benefits of fresh meats and vegetables are much higher than their frozen or processed counterparts. By buying fresh, you maximize the nutrients in the food and are able to get the highest benefits from the foods that you eat. Many people feel that organic is healthier. This is not true. The thing that organic foods do offer is that they are grown environmentally safe. There are no health benefits to organic, but it is a good choice for the planet. The big choice in the health factor of foods is knowing when they are ripe. Under or over ripe fruits and vegetables do not have the same nutrients as ones that are at their peak. Being able to identify the peak period of the foods is the key to staying healthy.

One other method for improving nutritional health in your cooking is to pair health foods together. You can add fruits and juices to your recipes that will help to boost the benefits. One example of this is mixing orange or strawberry chunks into a dark chocolate dessert. This will give you the serving of fruits with all the vitamins combined with the antioxidants of the dark chocolate. You get all this while indulging in a delectable sweetness that may make you feel guilty. There are several combinations that you can make to improve your health benefits. This is just one of the better tasting combinations. Thin slices of asparagus mixed with green beans or corn is another great mixture that will increase your nutrition. For those like me that can not stand the taste of broccoli, you can finely chop it and mix it with several different sauces for an excellent topping for any pasta. By finely chopping things like broccoli, mushrooms, asparagus, or any other "problem" vegetable, you can increase the amounts that your family needs without all the fuss about the taste. Many times, the veggies will go unnoticed.

It may take a little deception and planning, but adding healthy foods to your diet can be fun and easy. With the right combinations and strategies, you can actually make some very tasty and "guilty" tasting dishes that will improve the health of your family. Staying fresh and eating healthy does not have to be a chore. It can be fun and delicious to get your full servings of fruits and vegetables and all the benefits that go with it.
