How to Eat Healthy and Lose Weight

Casey C
Millions of women try diet after diet to get healthy and in shape or they try and starve themselves to lose weight. Women struggle on a daily basis to lose weight, as obesity is on the rise in America. So many struggle to find a weight loss program to help them shed those extra pounds. Most try different diets only to fail; some women give up only to find they are eating more and putting on more pounds.

Women do not have to starve themselves or even exercise to lose weight. My idea of a healthy diet for women, who are trying to lose weight, is a diabetic diet. A diabetic diet is low in carbohydrates and no sugar. Most diabetics eat four small meals a day. With sugar substitutes you do not have to leave out all sweets.

I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and I had to start following a diabetic diet. When I was fist diagnosed with diabetes, one of my first thoughts was that I would have to cut out my sugar and I would no longer be able to enjoy eating sweets anymore. I thought this diet would be hard to follow because I enjoyed eating sweets and drinking my coffee with sugar. I wasn't trying to lose weight, but within a month of following this diet I went from a size 14 to a size 12.

I knew I did not like the taste of Equal or Sweet-n-Low, so these two sugar substitutes would not work for me. My girlfriend suggested Splenda; she told me it wasn't sugar but it was made from sugar so therefore it would taste more like sugar. First I tried it in my coffee and I noticed there wasn't a big difference between Splenda and sugar, so not wanting to miss out on enjoying sweets, I then started baking with Splenda.

For breakfast I would usually eat two scrambled eggs, two strips of bacon and at times even a piece of toast. For lunch I would eat tuna fish mixed with blue plate on crackers. I would watch my carbohydrate count in the crackers. Sometimes for lunch I would eat a salad with ranch dressing and some fruit. For dinner I would always make sure I had some kind of green vegetable, like green beans or broccoli. So for dinner if I was having a meat, starch, and vegetable I would fill half my plate with a vegetable, ¼ of my plate would be my starch and the other ¼ would be my meat.

Most women like to eat at night before bedtime and on most diets you can't. I made sure I didn't miss out on this nighttime snack. I would snack before bed, although watching how much I ate. I would either eat tuna fish with crackers, only eating about seven crackers. If I wanted something sweet I would eat sugar free cookies, a snack bar, or even something I had baked using Splenda. I would not eat a lot of this at one time, just enough to get rid of my craving for sweets.

Being on this diet I never felt full, but then again I never felt hungry either. When following this diet it is best to try and drink six glasses of water a day. Always make sure you drink a glass of water before every meal. Another thing I did was drink two cups of flavored green tea with ginseng. I would drink one cup after breakfast and one cup after dinner. Green tea with ginseng releases toxins from your body.

If you are someone dealing with obesity or weight issues, and want to shed the extra pounds you carry, I suggest trying this diet. This diet may not work for everyone but it never hurts to try. When I was diagnosed with diabetes I started this diet. My girlfriend being a little over weight started following my diet, and eating what I had to. She went from a size 22 to a size 18. We are not only losing weight, but we are also feeling healthier and more energetic.
