How to Eat Less when Dieting

Jason Cooley
Dieting is a tough road to travel. In fact, it compares more closely to flying cramped in coach with a baby screaming in your ear and a bratty kid repeatedly kicking the back of your seat. Yeah, dieting for weight loss is not a fun journey. When you're accustomed to eating a certain amount of food your body starts to operate to accommodate that large intake so your over eating becomes the standard for your body to run smoothly.

When you throw your body a curve ball, your stomach notices a lack of inventory and informs the big boss upstairs (your brain) of these odd conditions. Your brain decides not to panic and continues to run everything just as it has. That's like driving your car and noticing that you are low on gas but not changing the way you drive to conserve your resources. The first few days of a diet are very hard and you will feel like you are ready to stall many times throughout the day. When you are low on fuel a natural reaction is to fuel up but of course, you're dieting and that is not an option. You started your diet to lose weight but you don't want to live like this so what can you do to make it all easier?

Luckily, there are some tricks to make it easier to eat less food.

Move to England. The English have some of the worst food in the world so moving there will make it very easy to cut back on your food intake. Of course, this is not the most practical idea but it is the most surefire and effective way to eat less.

Keep busy. Get a hobby, volunteer time, or take on more responsibility at home or work. The less idle time you have, the less time you have to think about food. Now would be the time to take on a side project, put in some overtime, or tend to whatever you didn't have time to deal with before. Yes, this will exhaust you but at least you will be achieving in both your weight loss and in a bonus area of your life.

Drink lots of water. Many of the foods we eat are filled with water and many times we mistake hunger for hydration needs. Our brain is very crafty and knows that if we eat we will get the fluids our bodies crave.

Eat more fiber. Fiber is an unofficial nutrient that could be your best friend while dieting. It's not quite a nutrient because it does not contain any calories, but at the same time it gets you full by occupying bulky space inside of your stomach. Do not add too much fiber too quickly because doing so can make your next trip to the bathroom uneventful

I can't write this in the third person... I just can't. To do so would make me feel like a douche big enough to accommodate Madonna. My articles are a change of pace from what you can expect anywhere else. M...  View profile
