The first topic in eating healthy we will discuss is the correct times to eat. If you were to eat a full meal before exercising even if it was healthy, you would be way to bloated and full to move. Eating a full meal before exercising is a definite, NO, this can cause you to get nauseous and cause cramps. You should eat before exercising though, but make sure it's a small snack, 30 minutes before you exercise. Eating a small snack will give you that burst of energy without the bad feelings a full meal would cause. Liquids should be drunk throughout the day, even before and after workouts the preferred liquid would be water. After a good workout it is also a good time to eat a healthy meal, or snack. Eating and drinking healthy at the correct times will give you more energy and help you stay healthy.
The next topic in eating healthy we will discuss is the correct foods to eat. Eating the right foods will help you get the energy you need to stay healthy and fit. Eating a full meal as stated above is a bad idea before working out, but eating a snack 30 minutes before is fine. Some of those snacks are protein based foods, a banana, yogurt, peanut butter and bread, a small piece of cheese, meat and fish are also a good source of fiber. Some other foods like those that are high in sugar and caffeine should be eating in small doses and in moderation because they only supply short bursts of energy. You may feel tired during the day or while exercising you feel tired fast, this may be because you are dehydrated. When you feel dehydrated drink lots of water, this should be done throughout the day to keep your body refreshed. Another great source of food to eat for energy and staying healthy is fiber; fiber helps your digestive system work well and gives you overall good health. A good source to get fiber from is fruits, vegetables, oats, and whole grains. Another good source of energy from foods is energy bars. Energy bars should not have a lot of sugar, and should have protein and carbohydrates. For big meals such as breakfast, lunch and dinner there are some certain foods you should and should not eat. First for breakfast you should try to eat something big to give you that morning burst of energy such as, cereal, oatmeal with fruits and nuts, toast, egg whites, and a fruit smoothie are some ideas. Second for lunch you should try to eat small since you had a big breakfast like a chicken or turkey sandwich, salad, or a healthy vegetable or fruit snack. Lastly for dinner you should try to eat something big but not too late. While working out all day your body may feel down and not so energetic so a good dinner would help you feel much better. A good dinner would consist of rice, vegetables, and a small portion of meat, something from all forms of the food group.
The final topic in eating healthy we will discuss is what not to eat. When trying to get energy and live healthy there are certain foods you shouldn't eat like fatty foods, high sugar foods, dairy foods, greasy foods, and other similar foods. When drinking the most important drinks are water and fruit juice, but the wrong types of liquids are soda, lots of caffeine, artificial juices and other similar drinks. These foods will only make you dehydrated, feel bad, and not give you the energy you need so it's a good idea to stay clear of this kinds of foods.
A healthy eating habit, the right food, and drinks, can help you have overall good health and lots of energy. These steps are only some steps to living a healthy and energetic life. There are many other steps you can follow but I hope these can be helpful for you and your families' health.
