Ed Dale's tale
For some you might be asking "Ed Who." For those in the know Ed Dale is one of the prominent of Internet Marketing icons of our present time. Besides being bestowed the title of the top Internet Marketer for 2008, Ed teaches IM through the paid resources of the Immediate Edge and his newest venue Thirty Day Challenge Plus. This all on top on his yearly free venue of the original Thirty Day Challenge first launched in 2005. It has been offered online each year since. During one of Ed's video discourses in 2008 he exclaimed he had been put in his place about the emerging opportunity for amateur musicians and singers worldwide on YouTube.com. Using his own daughter and other youngsters who have uploaded he illustrated how these amateurs were attracting thousands upon thousands views to their video posts. To make his point Ed used the clips that were to say the least were a long way from getting American Idol notice. And of course, Ed Dale's most visionary point was to foretell YouTube as breakout venue for the next generation of musicians and singers.
Susan Story
Susan Boyles at the time of this writing is an international star. Her YouTube rendition of "Cry Me A River" for a charity event in 1999 has set the music world on end. First of all at 47 years young and far from the Beyonce, JLo, etc appearance Susan Boyle carries the everyman torch of inspiration for others. As for those who see an overnight sensation Ms. Boyle has long paid her dues or as I like to say it was a very long night. Without a doubt her acclaim though unexpected is well deserved.
But Susan's not the story here
Ed Dale forecast of YouTube becoming a launching pad for future stars like Susan Boyle is our focus. Yes, there are those who will say Ed didn't exactly aim his words at Susan's demographics. If you catch his video prediction you may even get the impression he was aiming at the younger generation. That would be a misconception. Ed has been teaching looks and age are less of a factor in success with the dawning of free streaming video. In fact he many times holds himself up for not being the prettiest looking success story out there. After all he is the self proclaimed and promoted "Tubby Nerd." To further his self efficacy I quote from his facebook page, "I was hoping you would be here because of my stunning good looks but apparently not.."
What few guru's do
There are millions of self proclaimed guru's for everything. The internet explosion has anyone who has published anything more than a sentence long self-extolling themselves as the all mighty icon of whatever field they choose to. Many of whom are just regurgitating or re-purposing things they have taken from others. Ed Dale and many of his mastermind group go beyond doing their homework. They create, test, retest, analyze and even retrace their steps from scratch to validate their theories many times over. As a magician I understand the process. In learning a trick you don't go into performance without having practiced it until exhaustion. Believe me when I didn't, it showed.
About Ed's hits
First of all it was because of Ed Dale I was on Twitter when most others were just rolling their eyes at the mention of the name. Back then people wouldn't even ask "What's a Twitter." I think my Twitter page should have the member since 2007 stamp on it. Right now, Twitter is the iconic example of the Ed Dale experience. As is indigenous with any march toward success their have been the down sides. The infamous tumble with Tumblr.com remains as the posterchild of the darkside. That incident in itself serves as a reminder that every reach for that golden ring carries a certain risk factor. Still worldwide there are now thousands who found financial benefit and even gained true monetary independence from their efforts learned from Ed Dale.
The truth and underbelly of success
Ed and to a lesser extent Dan Raines is the face of the annual Thirty Day Challenge. Yet, not a day every goes by without Mr. Dale reminding you true success is leveraged through the help of others. Going back to Susan Boyle, would she have even gotten notice if others didn't do there parts. It takes more than talent alone. It takes more than heart. It take realizing you need others to play key parts in your rise to the top. Ed constantly acknowledges and sings the praises of gratitude of those who work for and with him.
This economy is a call for the visionary
The 2009 version of the challenge is set in a very trying time. Last year records were set in membership that no one thought possible. This year membership will probably soar past the unimaginable. Susan Boyle in proving Ed Dale's proclamation will more than likely be heralded as the icon that opened eyes to untapped potential in opportunity. Both Ed and Susan will have people looking to other fields of endeavor to recreate the same types of success. It is also interesting to note that a certain bond in traveling a humbled not too pretty path to success links the pair. The wake of this phenomenon will be felt beyond video, beyond music and beyond Internet Marketing. All because, Ed foretold it and Susan made it a reality. The true visionaries will be the ones who see this to be real. What remains to be seen is how many can be like an Ed Dale an maintain that image of folksy humble.
