The iPhone 3Gs introduced by Apple for AT&T cellular features a cutting edge video recording and editing program built right into the Iphone handset. After you have recorded video on the iPhone 3Gs you have the option to edit the video without having to transfer the file to a computer editing program.
Once you have finished recording your video on the iPhone, tape the record button to stop recording. After recording has stopped, you can review the latest video.
Review the latest video you recorded on the iPhone by tapping on the screenshot image in the lower left hand side of the screen. The screenshot shows an image from the latest video that you recently recorded.
Tapping the screenshot will open up the iPhone video review window where you can review and watch the video that was recorded. It is in this screen that you can begin to edit the video directly on the iPhone.
This editing feature is called "trimming the video" and can be used to edit out parts of the video as well as reduce the length of the video.
In the review screen tap on the screen to bring up the controls. The edit controls on the iPhone include a Cancel button, a Trim button, and a scrolling mini-frame viewer that shows your video frame by frame.
Using your finger, drag either end of the frame viewer the cut out portions of the video. Frames within the the yellow border of the frame viewer will remain while those shaded outside of the border will be deleted.
When you are completely satisfied with the trimming, tap on the yellow "Trim" button on the top right of the iPhone's screen to complete the trimming. The video will be saved according to the edit.
It is important to note that when trimming a video, the frames that are edited out of the frame viewer will be permanently deleted from the iPhone's storage and you will not be able to restore or retrieve deleted videos or frames. So review your trimming and editing before tapping the "Trim" button.
While this editing feature is extremely limited when compared to editing programs run on a computer or laptop, it is a first for camera phones and is quite advanced for a video recorder that is built into a cell phone.
