How to Be an Effective Sniper in Battlefield 1943

Battlefield 1943 is becoming a very popular online shooter for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Sniping is a very popular area in any online shooting game whether it's Call of Duty 4 or anything really. Battlefield 1943 is built a little less on realism but that doesn't mean run and gun is always the way to go. After many hours of working on technique, I've gathered some tips you can follow to be a better and more effective sniper in Battlefield 1943.

Even though the game isn't ultra realistic, you still need to think that way. Standing in the open trying to shoot people with a sniper rifle will probably get you killed. Standing on a mountain or hill without a care in the world will also get you killed. Mountains and hills are very popular sniping grounds and naturally that's where most people look for you. Thankfully there's no kill cam in Battlefield 1943, so that won't give your position away immediately. Although the key is to move positions after you kill someone. If you hit someone and don't kill them, they will know the general vicinity of where you are and it's a good idea to get away from there. Feel free to stay and fight but a pistol doesn't always match up well to a Garand or Thompson.

Another thing I see a lot is people cannot sit still! You're a sniper, you have to sit still. It's tempting to use that left analog stick when you have someone in your scopes and trying to put them down. Only problem is you're bouncing around, and other snipers will find you easily. Especially if you are on a hill or in a rather obvious spot. You need to sit still and wait for the right shot instead of bouncing all over. Just pick a good location, crouch and try to not to be in the open and wait. What good is a sniper when everyone can see you? You're a sitting duck.

This is very important, and that is location. It is everything. If you pick someplace too concealed, you probably won't see anyone, but if you just stand on the path sniping, you probably won't be around long. If you must use a mountain to snipe, check every so often for the enemy and step back from the top so you don't get hit. If you can get anything around shrubs or trees, that will usually work pretty well, just don't move around and wait for the right shot. Sometimes you have the enemy start spawning at points behind you or around you. Do whatever you can to move away unless you feel unstoppable or can switch packs for a machine gun or rifle. And obviously don't forget headshots. Body shots are pointless, aim for the head!

Always pick your battles. If you see three guys in a jeep coming towards you, probably best to let them pass and wait if they get out down the road maybe. If you are by a road, lay down your remote charges and you might get lucky with a jeep or tank rolling by. If you are outnumbered, and no one has seen you yet, just sit still. No point running unless everyone is shooting at you. Remote charges are great for tanks, usually one or two will take one out. This tip should be easy enough and common sense, because odds are you can't win against three or more guys at once unless they stink. So just sit still.

Everyone has their own technique of sniping in these games. It takes time but find what's right for you. After owning this game for a few months now, I've put together these tips so hopefully other online gamers can improve a little. I'm not saying my tips are the best but they are what work for me and even if I don't kill ten or more guys each round, I rarely die more than three or four times when I'm sniping.
