How to Effectively Manage Your Time

Kevin Nurmi
We all know how difficult it can be to get everything on your agenda done by the end of the day. You often feel over whelmed and deprived of personal time. You may be wondering what you can do to help yourself get on track. Is it really possible to get everything done, and have some extra time left over? The answer to that question is yes. By effectively managing your time, you can get everything done in your daily planning with some room to spare.

The first step to good time management is organization. You should first make an actual written to do list out. Put all of the chores and errands you want to accomplish for the day on your list. Make sure and set reasonable goals. You can not expect to get everything that would take you one week to accomplish done in one day. If it makes it easier for you, map out your entire week. Write down everything that needs to be accomplished in a week and break it down into days to make each day manageable and time efficient. Be sure to stick to your list of things to do, not skipping anything, and not trying to get anything extra done. Use your newly found spare time for you. Read a book or take a fun shopping trip, or maybe even go out to lunch with your friends.

Managing your time does not mean getting as much work done as possible. If you are going to have a happy life with minimal stress levels you need to leave at least some of your time unplanned. If you try to plan every minute of your day, you are likely going to feel like you do not have any control over what happens each day. You need to leave some time for yourself and some time to be spontaneous.

Get yourself on a schedule. If you do not already have a daily routine, you should start one. If you know that you need to shower, do the dishes, get your kids breakfast and off to school, do some chores, and do some work, try to do all of those things in the same order every day. This can make your life more of a cycle. The more often you do these things in the same order, the more used to doing them you get. This will eventually help you save time because you will be able to accomplish things without having to stop and wonder what you should do next.

By organizing your time you can help prevent yourself from getting sidetracked, which will in turn make you manage your time better. The same thing can be accomplished by setting a daily routine for yourself and getting used to it. No matter what you do, always remember to make time for yourself, and time to do whatever small tasks may come your way.
