How to Be an Efficient Employee: Boosting Productivity at Work

Heide Lynne Canlas
The success of any company or organization relies on its most valuable asset - its people. An employee, whether part of the management or the rank-and-file staff, performs a role that is vital to the accomplishment of the company's goals. Thus, one problematic worker is enough to affect the performance of the rest of the employees. A so-so performance from several workers may affect the well-being of the entire company.

Are you an employee? Be an efficient one and help improve your company's productivity. Here are a few tips on how to be an efficient employee:

1. Know what your tasks are and accomplish them well. Prepare a to-do list if you must to ensure that nothing will slip through the cracks. Your check list will help you keep track of the things you have to work on.

2. Be a good teammate. The office works like a machine with many parts. If one part does not function well, the entire machine will not work well. Participate in all activities. Cooperate. Do your part of the job, and do it well. Always keep in mind that there are people depending on you. Don't let them down. Be dependable.

3. Give yourself a deadline, and stick to it.

4. Avoid procrastinating. Do not delay performing tasks which you can work on today. Be proactive.

5. Cut down on Internet time and other non-office related tasks. The office is not paying you to spend your time and energy elsewhere.

6. Limit your personal phone calls and errands to break time. When you're in the office, make your work your priority. It would be unfair to use office time to engage in other activities. Respect your place of work.

7. Keep learning new things. There's always something new to explore and learn about. Learning new things will help enrich your knowledge and capabilities even more.
