Getting out of debt isn't easy, and a few moments of whimsical shopping can quickly spiral out of control, wherein you'll spend the next couple of years trying to re-gain control of your finance. Even though there are many methods and ways to eliminate debt, there's no overnight miracle for debt. You'll have to create a debt elimination plan, stick to the schedule, and vow never to repeat past credit mistakes. It's easier said than done. What's sad.....some people don't appreciate a debt-free life. Once they've successfully paid off their credit card debt, student loan debts, personal loans, and so forth - they acquire new debts!

If you're serious about your finances, and are looking for a way to completely get rid of debt, consider the following debt elimination strategies.

1. Get a Financial Planner: If uncontrolled debts keep you awake at night, maybe it's time to get help from a financial planner. They'll be able to assess your current situation and propose a realistic debt elimination plan. Of course, to benefit from the plan, you'll have to follow their recommendations and stick with the course.

2. Stop Spending Other People's Money: This seems like simple, common sense advice. Yet, few people grasp the importance of this step. If you don't have it....don't spend it! Yeah, unexpected problems emerge at the most inopportune times. If you've got to use credit for a car repair, medical bill, leaky pipe - it's okay. However, make every concerted effort to pay off the balance within a couple of months.

3. Stop Paying the Minimum: Everyone knows that it'll take 22 years to pay off a credit card if you only make minimum payments each month. In turn, you'll spend thousands of dollars in interest. The best way to eliminate debt is to double or triple the minimum due. Whenever possible, drop a few extra dollars on the credit card and reduce the balance.

4. Get a Lower Interest Rate: You don't need a debt consolidation or credit counseling agency to get a lower rate on your credit cards and loans. If you have satisfactory credit, you can contact your creditors and ask for an interest rate reduction. Even if the rate reduction is temporary, this gives you ample time to make higher monthly payments and quickly eliminate debt.

5. Burn, Cut, Destroy the Credit Card: If you want to eliminate debt, you've got to stop using the card for everyday purchases. Exercise a little self-control and keep the credit card locked away. If self-control isn't your best quality, destroy the card. Don't cancel the account. While this may seem like a smart move, canceled accounts lower your credit score.
