When your dog is let out at night, they might wander around and play with any outside playmates they find - including skunks. Then, in the morning your dog might come home sprayed with foul smelling skunk spray. Some owners might think that it is quite difficult to remove the skunk spray odor; however, it is not really as hard as it seem to be. Aside from that, you don't have to use any strong chemicals that can harm your dog or even you just to get rid of the smell. If in case your naughty dog had a close encounter with a skunk, here are some ways on how to eliminate skunk spray from your dog.

Gather the materials needed. You will need a solution of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid detergent. You have to prepare a solution using one quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, two teaspoons or liquid detergent, and ΒΌ cup of baking soda. If your dog is quite large, you need to double or to triple the solution.

Place your dog in a tub. Even though your dog smells very awful, you need to place it in a tub. Use the solution that you have created a while ago to bathe your dog. You have to use a cloth or a sponge to rub off the smell. Let the solution stay on your dog for at least five minutes. If the smell is severe, you need to bathe your dog outside your home so that the smell won't be confined inside your home.

Use a hose or a showerhead to rinse your dog. Once you have scrubbed your dog using the solution and let it stayed there for five minutes, then you can already rinse your dog using a showerhead or a hose. If in case the dog's eyes are affected by the skunk spray, you have to rinse it well.

Dry your dog completely. You can dry your dog using a clean towel so that you'd be able to know if the smell has already been eliminated.

Do keep in mind that hydrogen peroxide can have a bleaching effect on your dog's fur, so before you use it, you have to check for the effects first. If the odor wasn't completely removed from your dog's body, you can repeat the procedure. Just be sure that you will be creating a new solution because it will be useless if you are using the old solution with the skunk smell in it.
