Are you dealing with unnecessary stress in your life? If so, it is time to make some changes in order to eliminate that stress! The term "stress" is how a person mentally and physically responds to certain situations in life. Throughout life, we are faced with challenges, obstacles and changes and sometimes a person is unable to cope with certain situations. As a result, this causes a person to become stressed.

How do you know if you are stressed? Well, there are some common signs that you can look for that may indicate that you are stressed. These signs include the following: feeling depressed, guilty, tired, headaches, trouble sleeping, upset stomach, sweating, problems breathing and chronic fatigue. You may not experience all of these symptoms, but these symptoms are good indicators that your body is undergoing stress.

It is important to identify what is causing the stress in your life. Once you identify the "stressors," you can begin working on stress-reduction techniques (ways to reduce the stress). Prolonged stress can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, a stroke or heart attack. In addition, constant stress can lead to problems at home, work, or in your personal or social life. Below is a list of stress-reduction techniques that may assist you in reducing unnecessary stress from your life.

1. Take hot baths. Taking a hot bath can help you relax both mentally and physically.

2. Eat healthy and exercise. Following a healthy diet and exercise plan can keep you feeling good and energized.

3. Try deep breathing exercises. Deep breathing exercises can help your body relax and help you feel calm. You can also try yoga or meditation.

4. Pamper yourself. It's a good idea to treat yourself sometimes to something special or to a day of fun. You can pamper yourself by going to the movies or to the spa, buying yourself some new shoes or attire, taking a vacation, etc.

5. Think positive. Try to remain positive about life. Surround yourself with positive people and things.

6. Get plenty of sleep. Sleep deprivation (lack of sleep), can cause you to become irritable and anxious. This may cause stress, so be sure to get a good night's sleep.

7. Spend some quality time alone. Sometimes a person may need to spend time alone, away from everyone. For example, spending time alone, could simply mean going in your bedroom, closing the door and reading a book or magazine. It's OK to take some time away from your busy schedule to get away from everyone and everything. This will give you time to think about your goals, make plans and important decisions about your life.

8. Seek professional help. If you continue to have difficulties coping with stress, you definitely need to pay a visit to your doctor. Your physician can administer a "stress test" also known as an exercise or treadmill test. A stress test will show a doctor how well your heart handles work. Also, your physician may refer you to a professional to whom you can speak with about the stress and/or problems in your life.

9. Try to relax. Whatever it takes, make the necessary changes in order to live a happy and fulfilled lifestyle.

It is true that you cannot avoid certain situations from occurring in your life, because everyone will have to deal with unexpected events at some point. You just have to learn how to cope with those events and changes, and try to make the best of it. Start reducing and eliminating the negative stress from your life today!
