How I Embarrassed My 5 Year Old

Kelly Fleming
My son just started Kindergarten and was extremely nervous. He was still 4 years old the youngest in his class this was a period in his life where he was very clingy. Kindergarten was a very scary thing for him especially with all of the new kids.

I would sit with him on the playground for about 10 minutes before the afternoon class started. Sometimes he would play with the kids, but mostly he just wanted to watch everyone. When the Para-teacher blew the whistle he was in line ready to go.

The second day of school we were out there like clockwork again, but this time a little girl came and sat by my son. I asked him 'Is this your girlfriend?' He instantly went red and said, 'Mom'. The little girl that sat by him was all smiles. He still sat by me but he was about a foot away from me on the bench. He had nothing to say to me until the bell rang.

When school was over and we returned home my son said to me, 'Mom, don't do that again!' My Husband over heard this and had to be let in on the whole story. Needless to say my boy received a second dose of teasing that night. He is now able to laugh and talk about it. This is just one of those phases kids go through.
