How I Embarrassed My Son in Three Easy Steps

Never Assume There is No One Around

To embarrass your child is not something anyone sets out to do, but most parents end up in the situation at least one time during their lives of raising children. It is nothing to be ashamed of, it is a fact of life. When there is a teenager in the home, embarrassment can be something one doesn't even know about or what can cause this event before it happens.

My family always celebrated Memorial Day by gathering together for a yearly camping trip. Our tents and campers were usually parked at Twin Lakes, Oregon before the holiday began. Some years were much better than others but this year was one of the greatest. When camp was set and we were all ready to enjoy the weekend.

First morning out went well; although there were several other family members that still needed to arrive we were all set for a weekend of family fun. Now remember we were actually in a campground but unfortunately there was no rest room available in the area.

Night times were the worse because it was difficult to ask your children to leave the camper or tent to walk into the dark woods to do their business. On the second night my son who was 12 years old needed to use the restroom. My hubby was asleep and I did not wish to climb from beneath the warm blanks to walk him into the woods. I told my son to go right ahead and open the door to the camper and go from the steps or right out side the door into a coffee can that we had just for emergency times such as these.

Little did I know that my son had his young eyes fixed on a young girl who had arrived with friends. He was just at that pre-teen stage where he was unsure of himself and his abilities to flirt.

He stepped from the camper in his briefs and took his can with him; I heard a horrible scream and my son making a one-word comment that I did not even know he could say. I jumped up and ran to the door of the camper and there he stood can in hand and panties showing and this young girl standing there looking as if she had seen Sasquatch. I began to laugh hysterically and all the campers began to run from their tents and trailers and here the two kids stand starring at each other as if they were going to die.

My sons first words were, "MOM you said no one would be here to see me." I felt bad for him but could hardly tell him I was sorry, due to the laughter I could not stop and the loud laughing of family and friends around us both.
