How to Enjoy Christmas in New York

MarDes
one of the reasons why I love living in New York is the holiday seasons.Everyone is in the holiday mood and there are so many sight to enjoy from the displays at the stores in Manhatten to the Christmas tree at rockefeller center located at 50th street and 5th avenue. It is the most amazing thing to see in New York at Christmas time. I love to go see it every year.Everybody from age 1 to 100 will enjoy it. There are so many things to do in the city at Christmas time and this you will truely love.

People often come to the city to do most if not all their holiday shopping and why not? Its like a winter wonderland. There are so many other things that you can do besides just shopping, you can go ice skating at either central park, Prospect Park and of course Rockefeller center. Another attraction is going to see some Christmas shows. Radio City during Christmas is spectacular. Each year, more than one million tourists and visitors include Radio City as their must-visit itinerary as the Radio City Christmas Spectacular is a feast for the eyes and the ears. The Christmas show runs for eight weeks and has been a consistent box office success since it began in 1933.

Here are just a few things to do while visiting New York City during the holidays:

1. Go to macy's for their window show - macy's there is huge and every window has a mini "show" of puppets that each depict their own theme. it is really fun to watch, and the kids will enjoy themselves.

2. Go to rockefellar center and go iceskating and visit the giant tree witch is always about 75 to 90 feet tall and 35 feet wide. call 212-332-7655 for more information. to go ice skating in the morning would be better since it is less crowded at that time, but the tree is most beautiful at night.

3. Visit the south street sea port, during christmas times they usually have shows and performances, and the sea port experience is great. you can also shop there which is great if you need gifts.

4. Go to 42 street and visit the hersey chocolate shop and giant toys R us, they even have a ferris wheel inside. Also 42 street has a lot of shops, and the lights really shine bright at night.

5. Go see a broadway play, I suggest phantom of the opera, it's an all time favorite christmas play, or beauty and the beast for the kids.

Here are the theaters where you can enjoy these wonderful plays:

Majestic Theatre
247 West 44 Street
New York - (phantom)

Lunt-Fontanne Theatre
205 West 46th Street
New York (beauty and the beast)

Call 1.800.Broadway

Thank you for this article. I've been to NY once and I plan to go back the end of this year but I do not know if holiday season is a good time to go there. This article has been very helpful to me. Now, I will start preparing to visit NY this Christmas.
