Being active is the key to most things in life, and holidays such as Halloween are no exception. Why not put your good hands to use and plan a community event? Being at the helm of organizing a gathering in your neighborhood can be hugely rewarding to you and of endless enjoyment to your patrons. Putting yourself in charge of such a gathering can also alleviate child concerns while Trick-Or-Treating, and several fun activities can be produced in a home setting. Bobbing for apples, costume contests and making Halloween cookies and other goodies are always surefire hits with kids.
If you would prefer to not take on so much responsibility of clean up and planning, you can also always volunteer to take out neighborhood kids for Trick-Or-Treating. Often parents work late and some children are forced to stay at home on such an important holiday, so you can do them a huge favor and enjoy taking their kids out for some fun. If that is a burden that you would rather not bare, there is no shame in passing out candy to those ghouls and witches that show up at your door throughout the night. It is also fun to have your house be themed, with maybe a graveyard on the front lawn, or a haunted house motif. Have fun with it, and they will.
The most fun and traditional thing to do on a Halloween night is to invite friends over and have a movie marathon of monster classics. Watching horror movies with your friends snacking on candy and popcorn never gets old, and is extremely enjoyable if you all take turns picking movies. You can also decorate the interior of your house or apartment, and play creepy sound effects or Halloween songs. Why not get creative and have the sodas in a cauldron filled with dry ice? The opportunities and ways to have fun are endless, and almost all of them require little to no budget and just a hint of imagination.
Halloween may be driven by the children, but is not a holiday to be glossed over by other age groups. Make memories, take pictures, and most of all, just have fun.
