How to Enjoy a Healing Vacation

A Healthful Invigorating Vacation Need Not Be Long and Expensive

Many people are afraid to take a vacation, even as their brain and nerves are demanding some psychic healing. They are so afraid of leaving their demanding, draining jobs for only one day, that eventually their bodies will rebel, in the form of a heart attack or stroke, and they will be stopped in their tracks. They will be spending that much-needed vacation in the hospital.

Another common excuse is lack of money. I cannot afford it, I have bills to pay, or some similar excuse. All through the rebellious sixties, and beyond, the hippies of yore were traversing the country with nothing more than a backpack.

A common perception is that taking time off will lower productivity and morale among company employees. Studies have shown otherwise, as employees return refreshed with healing energy. The recent trend of staying connected to work by taking blackberries, i-pods, or laptops on vacation is self-defeating, since they are still tethered to the business or workplace.

A healthful, invigorating vacation need not be long. Just a weekend beach vacation could provide lasting benefits. It could be a chance to revive a long-dormant hobby that once provided enjoyment, before all the "shoulds" got in the way. Often pencil and paper will do wonders, just by sitting in a park and drawing or writing about the scenery. Another benefit would be to finally get into a daily exercise program that is enjoyable, such as five minutes of aerobic exercise indoors, followed by a fifteen minute morning walk. This is doable by anyone before work, and will bring lasting benefits.
