How to Enjoy the Journey of Life

Mark Murphy
Looking for advice on the journey of life? If I were to boil it down to one sentence, it would be: Travel lightly. There are several connotations involved in these two little words. Travel lightly in every sense of the words.

Don't carry too much baggage. Did you have a bad childhood? That's too bad, but don't let those memories taint your relationships today. You cannot go back and recreate the perfect childhood that you deserve but you can learn from your youth and try not to let it infect your life now. Don't carry hate or revenge very long. They may not be big words, but they weigh you down, mentally and emotionally. Feelings like these will cripple you and stop you from enjoying your journey through life. Leave them where you found them, you'll find plenty of better things to replace them with on your trip. The same goes for jealousy, envy, and pride. The journey of life is a pretty long one and you're going to need all the energy you can spare.

Don't carry too much baggage. I mean this in the literal sense now. There are some real pack-rats out there. They save everything that they think means something. I'm not suggesting tossing out treasured heirlooms, but choose your possessions wisely. Keep your mother's wedding ring but don't keep those stained doilies she bought at that yard sale 10 years ago. Keeping too many old things will make you lose perspective of all the new things you'll encounter. Like I said before, the journey of life is going to be a really long one. Travel lightly, you can always pick up what you need when you arrive.
