- Living in a Condominium community has many benefits. The outside of each unit and the common areas are maintained by the homeowners association, whose members are elected by the unit owners. For this you pay a monthly fee which covers cable television, water, assigned parking, lawn mowing, among others
Start by exploring areas with the condos you might want to live in. If this is your home town that you know well, it will be easy to decide. Looking up area maps on the internet will give you lots of information. If you have arrived recently, or are thinking of an area that's unknown to you, visiting and discussing your ideas with a real estate professional is a must.
After tentatively deciding on one side of the town or city, It's time to look up which units are for sale, which have recently sold, and for how much. Get some idea of what size unit is being offered for about how much. How do amenities differ between units? You now have some idea of what asking prices are. Now it's time to take a close look at just what size unit you want, which amenities are important, the distance to commercial establishments, such as stores or banks, that you will need to visit often.
Is public transportation important? study what is available. After narrowing your choices to your favorites, it's time to visit each community. Speak to the president of the condos homeowners association, tune in to their demeanor, who does it strike you? Talk to any resident that passes by. Walk through the grounds, are they tidy, well-kept. Does the mood of the place make you comfortable? How are the association finances? Is there a reserve for emergencies? If not, you could be hit with a large bill that might be detrimental if you are on a fixed income.
- There are many choices available, take your time.
- For those tired of taking care of a house, it's ideal.
- If more than two floors, is there an elevator?
- What is the proximity to schools?
- What is the proximity to busy main roads?
