How to Entertain a 7 Month Old

Easy Tips to Helping Your 7 Month Old Learn Through Play

Sarah Holmes
Your 7 month old is learning and discovering. There may not be much your 7 month old can do. Often 7 month olds don't crawl or walk but are eager to learn and explore their environment. Boredom can often be a key reason why a baby is crabby. Here are some excellent tips to use for your 7 month old so your baby will be happy instead of bored.

V-Tech Baby Laptop

We have the V-Tech Baby Laptop. You can find it for as low as $12.50 at Walmart. This laptop has provided hours of play when our baby was 7 months old. He loves typing on it, hitting the keys and making music. There are three settings: music, talking and another setting. It has a mouse attached and when you closed it, it says "Good-Bye". I highly recommend this product for a 6 - 9 month old.

Little Tikes

Little Tikes has lots of great toys for babies. One of the toys I have found (I am not sure what it is specifically called), but it is multi colored with primarily purple and yellow. The top of the toy looks like scissors handle (our toy is the color purple) and it makes pretty lights and music when you twist it. You can find it at Target for around $6. It may also be available at Wal-mart or Sears. I believe the toys can come in other colors with the same funcionality for each toy. The bottom of the toy has a suction cup so it sticks nicely to a high chair for play or you can use it anywhere (it is unnecessary for the toy to be suctioned). My kids love this toy (the toddler too) and it completely mezmorizes a baby. It doesn't seem to matter how many times I take this toy out to play, babies love it over and over again and rarely get bored with this toy. I would say this is one of the best $6 I have ever spent.

Baby Einstein's Baby Neptune

This DVD along with other DVD's are perfect for infants. I have found Baby Neptune to be one of the very favorites because it shows lots of video of water which babies love. I wonder if they are imagining splashing in it because it reminds them of a bath? Either way, this DVD is terrific!

Other entertainment you can find in your home include looking in mirrors, plastic measuring cups and light weight large plastic balls. To determine if a plastic ball is appropriate for your newborn and does not fall into the chockable category, try placing the ball through an empty paper towel roll. If the ball will not fit, then authorities consider this item not a chockable item. As always double check with consumer reports for recalls or your childs doctor if you are unsure what items are and are not chockable in nature. It is better to know than to guess.
