How to Entertain Your Kids on a Budget

Times are tough now more than ever. It has become increasingly difficult for my family to go out and have fun like we used to because of the economy. With a little bit of an imagination and some simple arts and crafts, you can turn a boring evening into a fun filled night.

The first thing you need to do is stop thinking about fun and money at the same time. If you think that money equals fun and fun equals money, well then it may not be as easy for you until you change your mentality about things.

Board games are an excelent way to enhance your family's bond. It is cheap--assuming you've already bought the board game--and it can be great by purchasing some soft drinks, popcorn and even some candy to make it feel like a special night.

Drawing can always be fun for anyone. We usually play a cheap version of Pictionary since we don't have the actual game. I tell my daughter that I am drawing something in the kitchen and she has to guess by my drawing what it is. She in turn tells me for example, that she is drawing something in the living room and again, we have to figure out what it is.

YouTube is an extremely entertaining technology for little ones as well as adults. Search something that everyone will enjoy such as funny cartoons or drawings, bloopers or funny videos. These will have everyone laughing and I bet it will even prompt some funny stories or memories that you have.

If you have a nice size backyard and some tent equipment, spend a night out camping in your backyard. Buy some marshmallows, make smores or just tell scary stories with the lights off. Candles really add to the spooky feeling. You can even make a campfire if you have a safe place where to do it or a fire pit. Please be careful with fire as it can turn a fun night into something not so fun.

There are just some examples of what you can do to get the whole family together and spend some quality time with each other. You don't have to spend cash to have fun.
