How to Erase Scars

Gregory Todd
The skin is considered the largest organ of the body. Blemishes and scars may be caused by wounds and other injuries. Scars may be categorized as recessed or raised scars. When wounded, collagen rebuilds skin tissue to heal the skin, uneven collagen formation resulting to a scar. Deep cuts or surgical wounds typically leave raised scars. The usual treatment for raised scars is dermabrasion or laser treatment. Recessed scars usually come from having chicken pox or having acne. Collagen or fat injections are treatments for recessed scars. A mixture of both treatments for both types of scars may be performed in cases where there are serious scars on the skin. Here are brief descriptions of the different treatments for erasing scars.

Collagen injection treatment - collagen is injected directly onto the problem areas to fatten up depressed area of the skin. The commonly used bovine collagen comes from the skin of a cow. This treatment can be administered to many areas all at the same time but it is best to have a skin test to avoid allergic reactions.

Demabrasion treatment - a motorized scraper or a brush that sands down the skin is used on the outmost layer of the skin to even out the surface. A thin crust will form on top of the skin but that will heal in a few weeks time to give way to rejuvenated and even skin without scars.

Chemical peel treatment - a chemical or an acid solution is applied to the problem area where burned skin forms a crust over the skins surface. The outer layer of the skin will then peel off and give way to new and more even skin tone.

Laser surgery - a high intensity laser is focused onto the scar to remove layers of the scar tissue instead of using a blade to cut out or a rough surface to sand out the raised scar.

Scar formation is a vital step of our skin's healing process. It may take some time to let it heal before we may be able to use any of the discussed procedures. It may also involve using many products and several procedures to erase scars.
