When it comes to using essential oils, this is what every beginner should know. In this article I will show you the basics, and some not so basics, of using essential oils. When you are done reading this article you should be able to use essential oils with confidence.

You can find most, if not all, essential oils in your own hometown by looking up natural food stores or doing a Google search from your computer. Please keep in mind that a lot of the essential oils on the market today have synthetics added to them, as they're basically made for the cosmetic industry.

You can also purchase essential oils in the wholesale market. Most companies providing wholesale essential oils are now on the Internet. If you are planning to purchase directly from an essential oil manufacturer then you can look forward to certain accredations that can also be helpful.

Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential oils by inhalation to improve physical and mental well being. For the best effects, it is advisable to buy 100% pure essential oils; products containing synthetic ingredients will not provide the same degree of benefit. However, should you suffer skin reaction, or wish to dilute the pure essential oils, almond oil is advised.

It is important to remember when using pure essential oils that they are very strong and should not be applied directly to the skin. Make sure you always dilute pure essential oils with an organic carrier oil such as almond, jojoba, or olive oil.

Therapeutic essential oils can be used to treat a vast array of ailments such as sunburn, indigestion and heartburn. They are also good for repelling insects and speeding up the healing process from sprains and strains.

Here are a couple of ways to use essential oils to enhance your physical or emotional well being.

To help increase your concentration and or focus. Try diffusing one or a combination of these essential oils into the air in the room in which you are working or studying: Lemon, grapefruit, peppermint, bergamot, or pine.

To help strengthen your immune system try using essential oils in the sauna by inhaling the aroma directly. Even though essential oils are natural products and can be inhaled directly with no harm, you should always be cautious when merely inhaling the aroma directly from the container, like you would when inhaling the scent of a cologne or perfume.

Relieve tendon inflammation or Tendonitis by massaging the area with any of these essential oils. First make sure to dilute the essential oil in an organic carrier oil. The oils to use are Rosemary, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Ginger or Peppermint. Approximately 10 drops of carrier oil to 1 drop of essential oil.

Sunburn Relief: Add 10 drops of chamomile or lavender oil to bath water and soak for fifteen minutes or longer. Another alternative is to add some lavender oil to a carrier oil and pat gently onto the sunburned area.

Some of the more popular and delightful natural essential oils are Lavender, Sandalwood, Neroli, Lemon, Rose, Lemongrass, Ylang ylang and Pine, but there are many others to try. Perhaps the reason that essential oils are so effective is because they contain a complex mixture of chemical compounds. Super bugs find these compounds very difficult to resist. There are many antiviral essential oils that can help improve your immunity to viruses by boosting your immune system and brain function.

The most popular essential oil is lavender, as it has many uses. To relax and gear down for sleep mix equal parts of Lavender and Geranium essential oils. Also, Chamomile may be used in place of the Geranium and works very well for soothing children when they are irritable for any reason.

Women in the 19th century would ask their jewelers to design special bottles to hold their perfumes and essential oils, this shows the importance of storing your essential oils in a proper container. Essential oils can become contaminated or 'weakened' with time if they are not stored properly. This might require a little extra effort and could become expensive in some cases, but the benefits you get from your essential oils are truly worth it.
