How to Get Your Etsy Shop on the Front Page

M M Corwin
Being on the front page of Etsy is a big boost to shop and item views and will likely lead to a sale or two. It is a great way to attract buyers who may not have been looking for your item specifically, but like your item when put in front of them.

One key fact to know is the front page is often selected from existing member made treasuries. These tips will help you get selected for both treasuries and the front page.

Item Photos
If you've read any of the articles on the Etsy blog or hung around in the Etsy forums, you know the number one tip sellers usually give for increasing sales is having great product shots. There is a reason why this topic will never go away-it is true. Having great photos will increase your likelihood of landing on the front page.

What makes a great photo? Check that it has a nice crisp view of the item and does not contain a distracting background. If the item warrants it, do some staging to show the item in context. Rather than just a close up of a pillow, a shot of the pillow on a chair against a neutral background will showcase your item nicely.

Search Etsy for articles and forum posts to find specific photography techniques that can improve your images.

Making Treasuries
Sure, you want to be featured in treasuries, but making treasuries will help you get on the front page, too. The shop that created the treasury will have its name on the top right corner of the treasury as it is shown with a link going to your store. It may not get you as many shop views as having an item that viewers see, but you will get a few curious click throughs.

Also, by making treasuries you are in a sense marketing yourself. Shops that you feature in your treasury will be curious about who created it and will stop by your shop to check you out. Not only does this get your shop name in front of people who may not be familiar with your shop, it also means they may be more likely to select you for a treasury.

Item Tags
Do you read the 'From the Merchandising Desk' articles on the Storque blog? If not, you should; they contain key information about what themes will be showcased in the upcoming month. If you have an item that fits into one of the themes, be sure your item tags include words relevant to that theme.

Also, are you including colors as tags? Many people search by color when looking for items to fill up a treasury, so having the color listed as a tag will help your chances of being selected.

See you on the front page!
