How Do You Evaluate Success? - 1 Chronicles 22:13

Jason Budd
We know how the world measures success when it comes to jobs-- money, and having better things than those around you.

"I have seen that every labor and every skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor. This too is vanity and striving after wind." - Ecclesiastes 4:4 (NASB)

But even when it comes to church assembly and worship there is confusion about this topic. Some see a successful church as one with a lot of great networking opportunities. Some look for the entertainment value of a worship services. Some feel successful if they just have a lot friends, or if the church raises lots of money, or if they walk out feeling good about themselves.

But what about you? How do you measure success? In reality if should be about the edification of brethren, the conversion of souls, righteousness, raising faithful children, or bearing fruits of the spirit.

In the Old Testament, a recipe for success was given by David for Solomon.

"Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the LORD gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged." - 1 Chronicles 22:13 (NASB)

This remains true for us today in regards to the New law. We will be successful if we observe the words of this book. If we remain strong courageous. If we are not afraid or discouraged, we will be successful in this life, and so, ready for the next.
