How to Exercise Regularly Even If You Hate It

K.S.
If you're like a lot of people, you frown at the very mention of exercising. You might even go as far to say that you hate exercise. But exercising is an essential part of living a healthy lifestyle and losing weight. If you can't picture yourself getting on a treadmill or taking a morning jog on a regular basis, there are certain things you can do to learn to love getting up and getting your heart pumping.

For starters, you can try to find some type of exercise that you do like. Work out your whole body. If you have doing a certain type of physical activity that works a specific part of the body, then look for another type of exercise to replace it with. You don't have to do crunches to work your abdomen, and you don't have to do lunges to shape your lower body. You don't even have to run, you can walk or bicycle or swim. Finding exercises you like will make your workout seem more enjoyable to do.

Secondly, don't think you have to do the typical exercises advertised on television, either. If you can't picture yourself using home exercise equipment or taking a morning jog, find other activities that move your body and make them work. For example, if you like working in the garden, you can rake or mow your yard by hand to get in exercise. If you like dancing, go dancing. If you enjoy winter weather and can take advantage of it, go ice skating or sledding. No matter what you like to do, you can find some ways to harness that into an exercise activity. Even if you like playing video games, the introduction of the Wii and Dance Dance Revolution, make converting that activity into exercise a breeze.

Third, you can find a training partner to help you stay motivated, even if you don't absolutely love to exercise. With a partner, you can have more fun, challenge each other to meet your goals, and try certain activities that you can't do alone, like tennis. Getting a trainer can also provide this for you, as well as new and fun exercises to help avoid boredom or feeling overwhelmed at the gym.

And finally, try taking some classes at a local gym. These exercise classes are a great way for you to meet new people, stay motivated, learn new exercises and have fun. Most gyms will offer low-cost or free exercise classes with membership, or you can check out your options at the local community complex.

Staying motivated if you hate exercising can be hard, but set goals and don't quit. You need to exercise and eat a balanced diet if you really want to lose weight. Make your exercise activity fun and it won't seem like such a chore.
