How to Explore the Unusual ABC Islands in the Carribean

DJG08
You have been to most or heard of most of the Caribbean islands. You may not have heard of ABC (for Bonaire Aruba, and Curacao islands) of the Lesser Antilles. The whole island group also includes other islands, St Maarten, Saba and St Eustatius. The acronym is formed using the names of three biggest islands.

The island group remains under the Netherlands colonial rule excepting Aruba which got independent in 1986. The relations with the Netherlands remain cordial. The Dutch influence certainly adds a strange flavor to this Caribbean paradise, although it has not completely drowned the spirit of the people of these islands.

If you want a Caribbean retreat with a difference, book a few days of pleasure in exploring these magnificent islands. And if you want a classic Caribbean holiday, go to Aruba the northern and most urbanized of these islands. Here, there are all the conveniences of modern hotels, restaurants and casinos. A variety of water activities awaits you including wind-surfing which has an annual international tournament held here.

About a fifth of Aruba is taken up by the Arikok National Park which is unarguably the best park in the Antilles. To view nature in its unspoiled state, visit Bonaire, to the south. A good portion of the seas around the Bonaire island were set aside as a park over 21/2 decades ago. This park is responsible for attracting tourists in droves year after year, as it boasts a divers' paradise. Snorkeling the coral reefs is another tourist attraction. If your interest is not in sea life, turn to watching birds. There are more than 200 different kinds of birds found on the islands.

Curacao, not as luxurious as Aruba but more modernized than Bonaire, lying between the two, might be the richest island of them all. The people of this island are truly international: Dutch, Spanish, Papiamentu (aboriginals) and English speaking peoples form this island's community. You will certainly enjoy the cuisine of all these diverse cultures. The history of the place is well preserved in the many museums and buildings and is a World Heritage Site. You can have a great time on the beautiful beaches or enjoy a few hours at the Curacao Seaquarium.

For a truly unique holiday destination, there are travel guides and Carribean vacation companies that offer guided tours to the ABC island. These groups offer the vacationer the glitz of the modern world and the untainted nature at its best. For your next vacation, do not even think of going anywhere else.
