How to Extend the Battery Life on Your Android Phone

The Android Operating System offers thousands of features for cell phone users. Many of these incredible features and applications, while valuable, drain the battery life, particularly for those users who frequently use applications.

Disable WiFi and Bluetooth Settings on Your Android Phone

While WiFi and Bluetooth features are great when needed, many users neglect to disable these features when not in use. These two, in particular, are huge battery life drainers and by simply disabling them, you can significantly extend your battery life on your Android phone. Find these options in "Wireless Controls" under the "Settings" menu.

Train Your Android Phone's Battery

Particularly if you have had your phone for awhile and you have noticed a drop in your battery life, you may need to retrain your battery. This can be accomplished by allowing your battery to completely discharge to the point that your phone shuts down. Once the battery is dead, charge the phone until the battery is at a 100 percent charge. This should be done about once a month.

Disable Vibrate and Reduce the Screen Brightness

Disabling the vibrate feature and reducing the screen brightness can help you further extend the battery life on your Android phone. As well, adjusting your screen timeout to as short of a time limit as possible and disabling "Audible Selection" and "Audible Touch Tones" will lower battery usage. Find these options in "Call Settings" under the "Settings" menu.

Disable GPS Functions on Your Android Phone

While GPS features are useful, they are a waste of power when you're not using them. To extend your battery life, disable the use of GPS satellites and wireless networks for determining your phone's location. Find these options in "Security and Location" under the "Settings" menu.

Terminate Applications When Not in Use

Just because an application is no longer visible on your Android phone's screen, does not mean it's not still running in the background, using up your battery life. A free application is available in the Android Marketplace called "Advanced Task Killer," which allows you to manage and terminate applications running in the background.
