How to Exude Power

Rita Jan
We have all known that kind of person: the kind of man or woman who walks into a room with confidence and makes heads turn. They exude self assurance, they exude self worth and they exude power. Getting, maintaining and keeping power is something which everyone wants, but only a few seem born with.

Developing Power. There are many people who seem cocky, and this is for one of two reasons. Either they have extremely high self esteem or they have extremely low self esteem. The only natural and sustainable way to develop power is to have high self esteem. Make a list of your biggest strengths, and if you cannot think of anything, ask your best friend or spouse to help you out. Add on to the list over time and as you think of new things. This list should essentially be things you believe to be true about yourself. Even if someone else believes it, if you do not believe it, do not write it down. This is to develop an internal sense of self-worth, rather than an external one based upon the opinions of others.

Next in developing power, start saying daily affirmations to yourself in the mirror every morning. This works, so do not feel silly about doing this. Stand in front of the mirror and say things that you want to be true about yourself. "I am strong. I am good looking. I treat people fairly. I am generous. I am wise." and so on. Do this every day, and every day, think of a new thing to add to your list. This will build a strong and airtight sense of self worth.

Maintaining Power. You will want to supplement your developing power with small tokens, such as concurrence by others. Do not fish for compliments, but every time someone says something about you that makes you feel good, write it down on an index card, in full quotation, as well as the author and date. Browse through your index cards daily and think of how nice it is to be appreciated.

Keeping Power. The two steps in keeping power both involve giving power away to someone else. First, if you have a God or deity which you worship, give them your power on a daily basis. This removal of responsibility and pressure from your shoulders has a releasing effect and will give you a calm, peaceful mindset with which to begin your day. Acknowledge your deity's right to and excellent use of their power. Ask them to give you wisdom with which to better handle yours.

Secondly, give power to others. In an argument, let go of your need to be right or to be thought of as right. In daily encounters, give choices to others and be generous. Uplift the spirits of others by encouraging them and speaking words of life and blessing to them. Praise people behind their backs, telling others what you really admire about them. The more power you give out to the universe, the more power you will receive.

Power is a tricky medium. Many people believe that power corrupts, that power is evil or that power should only be used in limited quantities. Tell that to Elisha, the Biblical prophet who used incredible miracles, God-like power and curses to perform the work of the Almighty. Power can be a great tool to use in this world. Use it well and you will receive higher quality of power.
