How to Face Your Flying Fear

Derek Dobie
The proper term for fear of flying is most commonly called aerophobia by many trained psychologists and doctors. The symptoms that you may have this specific phobia are most similar to anxiety attacks and great stress and sometimes even vomiting. If you are still wondering upon a clear definition of fear, here is my interpretation of fear:

Fear - A displeasing emotion startled by the oncoming threat of either a real situation or imagined thought.

Ask Yourself This

The most agreed upon way by the majority of people to get over your fears and phobias are to ask yourself simple questions and found the origin of what caused your fear.

The first question you should probably ponder upon has to do with memory.

What was the first situation that I was involved with dealing my fear of flying?

Once you have remembered this first time you can begin understanding your fear with a new style of confidence. You will begin to understand why you should not be afraid of that situation anymore.

New Perspective

Take a challenge ever once in a while.

When you face a situation with flying such as going on a plane be confident in yourself but not too overconfident. This confidence will most certainly cause in certain situations higher self esteem regarding their phobia and a showing of new found freedom in the face of your worst enemy fear itself.

Distract Yourself

You most likely will one day have to confront your not needed fear of flying.

For now if you want to start facing your fear in baby steps this is your best option.

Try distracting your thoughts from the reality of the situation you are in by thinking of positive outcomes such as the people you will see once the plane lands in the foreign land or how beautiful the vacation spot is your visiting this holiday. Personally if I was flying I would be imaging that perfect run in of situations that puts me in a perfect spot for the most promising job opportunities.

Survival Based

It has been said by many professions in the vast interest of fears and phobias that they are common amongst many people as a survival instinct. Now if you think about that there is a lot of logic to it. For example my fear of flying is strictly because I am afraid of crashing and losing my life. I believe this is one of the most common aspects we all share in our fear's the loss of our life.

So as my simple advice in the end I would recommend that you confront your fear face to face with the most confidence and self esteem you have to serve in that current or soon to be presence of flying.
