How to Use Face Primer

Monica Bullock
Face primer protects your facial skin from the sun, free radicals and your makeup. A good primer works as a barrier between your skin and your foundation. Using a face primer will minimize any large pores, remove and controls excessive oils and reduces wrinkles. Primer holds makeup in place and gives you a fresh, dewy look like the ones you see in magazines. The key to using this product successfully is to use it sparingly on your face.

Cleanse

You should start by cleansing your skin with a product that suits your skin type. Pay attention to labels that read for "dry skin" or "oily skin." If you do not know what type of skin you have determine it by examining it carefully in a mirror. Dry skin will appear rough and patchy. Oily skin may have a sheen or feel oily to the touch. Combination may have a bit of both of these. Cleanse your face with warm water and the cleanser you have selected. Pat your skin dry with a warm towel.

Moisturize

Moisturize your skin with an oil-free product. Choose a moisturizer that does not have an SPF if your face primer does. Apply the moisturizer liberally and allow the moisturizer to dry on your skin before proceeding.

Prime It

Dab a small amount of primer onto the pads of your fore and ring finger. Rub the primer into your skin starting at the forehead and working downwards. Use the product sparingly. Too much primer will make your skin feel caked on and uneven. Allow the primer to dry for one minute before proceeding. Then apply your foundation. Try using a mineral powder or mousse makeup for the best results.

Practice using face primer to get a professional glow.
