How to Use Facebook to Market Any Business

Kay Baxter
Recently I was told by a friend that Facebook can only be used as a social venue and that it held no value as a marketing tool for business. I told my friend I respectively disagree!

Facebook can be a very effective marketing tool for any business be it a restaurant, realtor or like me a horse farm. It really does not matter what kind of business it is-you should be marketing it on Facebook.

To market a business on Facebook you must first have a Facebook page. Once you have that you can make what is called a "page" or "fan page' for your business.

Here are the steps to making your business a Facebook Fan page:

Go to your profile on your Facebook page.
Go to the bottom of the page to the link "Advertising"
Go to the top of the new page and hit the link called "pages"
Go to the top of the new page in the upper right hand corner and hit "create a page" in the green box
Check the box to indicate if its a business or organization
Sign the electronic signature

You now have a Facebook fan page to promote your business. Publish this to your main Facebook feed and watch people sign up to be fans.

Once you have established this page it's important to keep it updated and fresh. You can also have fans hold discussions, give ratings or just talk about your business. Be sure you post anything new happening with your business or new products.

Even if you decide not to make a "fan page" you can still use Facebook to market yourself and your business. Be sure you have links to your website, blogs and other important sites listed on your Facebook page. Using Facebook photo albums is also a great tool. For example I created a photo album titled "2009 Sale Horses" This gets more views then any other photo album on my Facebook.

Be sure to link your blog to Facebook. That way anytime you post to your blog it will automatically post to your Facebook page. This ensures you more views and a new audience.
