How to Make Fake Blood for Halloween

John Yates
Halloween costumes often require fake blood in order to look especially gory. Though many costume and party supply stores stock plenty of fake blood, it can be quite pricey. An alternative is to make your own fake blood from some common kitchen items that you probably already have at home.

Start by placing a large mixing bowl on your kitchen counter. Add five tablespoons of corn starch into the mixing bowl. Pour 1/3 of a cup of warm water into the bowl. Mix the corn starch and water together thoroughly with a whisk or fork.

Add 2/3 of a cup of corn syrup to the mixture, stirring as you pour it into the bowl. Once you have an even consistency, squeeze four teaspoons of red food coloring into the mixture. Continue to stir the blood until the food coloring is completely mixed.

For a thicker consistency, especially if you need the blood to stick to a costume, try adding 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder. Stir the powder into the mixture, and apply to your costume.
