How to Fall Asleep Quicker Without Medication

BS
Falling asleep seems like it would be very easy and simple, but for a lot of people it's actual very tough. Laying in your bed at night trying to fall asleep when you can't, is extremely frustrating and tiring. People who have trouble sleeping often turn to medication to help them fall asleep quicker, but there are risks and side effects that go along with those medications. When you can't fall asleep, it's very tempting to turn to medication, whether they be over the counter or prescription, but before you try medication, try some more natural ways to fall asleep quicker.

Set a schedule
In order to get fall asleep quicker, try going to bed at the same time every night. This will get your body used to going to sleep at the same time, and will make it much easier for you to fall asleep at night. If you have trouble falling asleep in the first place, this may be tough but once your body gets used to falling asleep at the same time, it will become much easier.

Get rid of any distractions
TV, radio, iPod, anything else that could distract you when going to bed needs to go. A lot of people like to fall asleep to music, or some kind of noise, but that's only okay if you have no problem falling asleep. You may not even realize that this is the reason why you are having trouble falling asleep, but that is a very problem. Take the distractions out of your room, and try again. If that doesn't work, try something new.

Work with the sunlight
Whether you realize it or not, your body reacts to how dark or light it is outside. When you get up, open up your blinds, turn on the light, or step outside to get some sunshine. This will help your body recognize that it's time to get up. When you go to sleep, turn the lights off, close the blinds, and make sure that it's dark in your room. This will help your body recognize it's time for you to go to sleep and help you get to sleep quicker.

Don't sleep during the day
This is a pretty obvious one. If you sleep during the day, you won't be tired enough to fall asleep at night. Taking naps also messes with your internal clock, so just don't take naps.

Check your sleeping area
If you are having trouble falling asleep, it may be your bed or pillows. If your bed is extremely old, it may be keeping your from falling asleep. If your bed is not big enough, it could be keeping your from falling asleep. If your pillows are uncomfortable, if your sheets are too thick or too thin, if you're allergic to your bedding, it could be keeping you from falling asleep. To help you get to sleep quicker, make sure that there is no problem with the place where you sleep.
