How to Make a Fall Wreath Ring for Your Pillar Candles

When Fall comes, it's time to look for some softer lighting to decorate your home. If you want to group together some pillar candles why not add to their charm by making small, festive wreaths to go around the base? They are fairly inexpensive, and you can make them to suit your Fall décor. Here's what you will need for this project:

How to Make a Fall Wreath Ring for Your Pillar Candles--

Materials List

Wreath Form (You can use wire and shape your own, use a Styrofoam ring, or use a pre-made form.)

Pillar Candle (Make sure that the Pillar Candle and Wreath Form are in compatible sizes.)

Artificial Flowers in Complementing Colors (You will only need two bunches. These are not going to be that big and you don't want to overcrowd the wreath.)

Small Decorator Items Pre-Made with Floral Picks (You can find just about anything to go on the wreath; from small pumpkins, to tiny hay bales or pine cones. Use only one or two of them per each wreath ring.)

Dried Moss (If you are going with a Styrofoam ring form.)

Floral Picks (For attaching the flowers to the wreath and the moss to the Styrofoam.)

Floral Tape (For attaching the cut flowers to the floral picks.)

Wire Cutters (For cutting the flowers off the bunch.)

Step 1: Getting Started

Begin by taking your artificial flower bunches and, using the wire cutters, clip the individual flowers from the bunch. Depending on how tall you want the flowers to stick up will determine how long you want the stems to be. Since these are going onto wreath rings for pillar candles, you can feel confident in snipping them short.

You might be tempted to just give them a tug and see if the flower heads pull off, but resist the temptation. It's a lot easier to just attach the floral wire to the already existing stem than to try and fight with getting the floral wire to stay inside the flower head.

If you are using a Styrofoam wreath ring you can go ahead and attach the moss using the floral pins. You will want to cover the foam completely on the top and outside edge. You won't see the inside edge as it will be against the candle, and you want to leave the bottom uncovered.

Step 2: Attaching the Flowers to the Wire

Once you have the flowers all cut and sorted, you can begin to attach them to the floral wire. Using your floral tape, secure a length of wire to the flower head and remaining stem. Don't worry about the length of the wire just yet. You can snip it off into workable sizes when you begin placing the flowers in your wreath ring.

Step 3: Begin To Build Your Wreath

Find yourself a starting point on the wreath ring and start sticking the flowers in the wreath. Try and make a working pattern, like a large burgundy mum in the front; side; or in the twelve, three, six, and nine o'clock positions; depending on the size of your wreath. Around the outside you could place orange, white or russet colored daisies. Be sure when placing the flowers toward the inside of the ring that it will still fit easily over the pillar candle and remember, save one spot to add in your decoration.

Step 4: Adding the Finishing Touches to Your Wreath

Once you have the arrangement finished, insert the decoration(s). If you are going to use more than one, make sure to group them together, such as a pumpkin and small bale of hay on one side, or use two of the same kind like two gold, glittery pine cones on either side to give it balance.
