How to Get Your Family to Drink More Water

Common Misconceptions

Johanna Swith
It is a common misconception that you need to drink eight glasses of water per day. I have heard from multiple sources that for every cup of coffee or soda you consume you need to drink one glass of water. This is simply not true. Our water consumption includes juice, coffee, milk and carbonated sodas as well as water.

As these beverages are water based also. Can you imagine the amount of liquids you would consume in one day if you drank one water for every non water drink you had! You would be lucky to accomplish anything all day long, you would spend your entire day in the restroom urinating.

Sure we should drink more water and less soda. But water lacks the delicious taste of soda pop.At least it did until flavored water hit the market. I personally know about twelve American adults who will confess that they do not drink any water, ever. Which means that I know more like twenty adults who will not drink water, as we all know, dishonesty is a common trait in this day and age.

How do these people stay healthy when they do not drink any plain old fashioned tap water? As a child I can not ever remember having a glass of water served to me, it was always kool aide or sweet tea, or even chocolate milk. My mother is one of those people who refuse to drink water.

By the time I was about thirteen I stopped drinking kool aide or regular soda, and I opted for diet sodas and black coffee to avoid sweet drinks all together. I still stick to sugar free drinks, after all of these years.

I am a strange person however, I refuse to drink tap water. If water is not in a bottle, do not serve it to me. I do enjoy flavored water also. I try to consume at least 4 bottles of water a day, but I am also a fan of Diet Coke, and caffine always wins the battle.

If you are one of the many Americans who do not drink water because of the lack of taste I would recommend you try Dasani, Nestle , or Aquafina Flavor splash water. It will pleasantly surprise your taste buds. Water is delicious again! Flavored Water products are low in calories, usually you will get five calories per serving. A variety of flavors are available sure to please any taste!
