David DeWitt
Snowmeggedon may be over, but the icy grip of winter still holds on to much of the country. Winter can bring its fair share of headaches and various problems. The snow piles up causing school closures, traffic delays, and lots of additional winter related work. There are some benefits to the onslaught of snowstorms. Families can take advantage of winter weather to have some fun while waiting for winter to be over.

Winter weather can make it nearly impossible to travel and the cold can make it difficult to enjoy the outdoors. There are some amazingly simple ways to create family fun during those cold winter months. Here are some suggestions on creating fun when the snow keeps on falling outside.

The outdoor activities that come with the winter weather are often unique to areas that are laden with larger amounts of snowfall. There are a number of ways for families to create fun and fond memories during the winter chill. In fact, there are some things that can only be done when winter hits us with its snowy best.

Sled riding
One of the best aspects of large amounts of snowfall is the fact that it makes the way for sled riding. Sled riding is one of the easiest and fastest ways to create some simple family fun when the snow piles up. Even a small hill can help create a great time when riding sleds.

Snowball fights
Nothing beats a huge snowball fight. Families can have enjoy the cold and one another as they pummel each other with snowballs. Family fun rarely ever gets so aggressive as it does when the snowballs start to fly. While the snowball fight can be a fun diversion, be careful not to actually hurt someone while throwing snowballs.

Snowmen, snow angels and snow forts
A good packing snow makes for great opportunity to build various things. There is always room for a snowman in the front or back yard. Building snowmen together can be a great ways to spend some family time together. Another way to pass the time during snowstorms is to make snow angels. Laying in the snow and waving arms back and forth to create an angelic image in the snow can bring great fun to children and adults alike. What would a snowball fight be with out a fort? Many people enjoy building forts for snowball fights. The protective structures often give the family something to do together before the snow battles can begin.

Playing in the snow as a family is an excellent break from all of the headaches caused by winter weather. Build some lasting memories by taking the time to enjoy some of winter's finest moments. Take the time to create some family fun in the snow.

Just finished chaperoneing 39 Florida teenagers up to West Virginia, and snowball fights? Oh yeah! One of the favorite things to happen. Maybe it'll be snow forts next time. ;)
