How to Make Fancy Flip Flops

Laura Ward
Summer is here and there is nothing better than a cute pair of flip flops on a hot day. Flip flops are available in many colors and are generally very inexpensive. You can transform a pair of ordinary flip flops into a super fun and cute pair of fancy flops! The following flip flop transformations are not only inexpensive and fun to make, they are stylish and you can create a pair for every outfit you own! Neither of the flip flops take very long to make and they will last for many years to come.

To make a pair of shaggy flops you will need a pair of flip flops, ribbon or fabric and scissors. Choose fabric or ribbon that matches your flip flops for the best results. If you are going to use fabric, you need to cut the fabric into strips approximately 2 inches long and 1/2 wide. If you will use ribbon, purchase a few spools of ribbon and cut into 2-inch long pieces. Take the ribbon or fabric pieces, one at a time, and tie around the thong part of the flip flop. Tie the ribbon or fabric into a secure double knot very tightly. Continue to tie ribbon or fabric around the thong part of the flip flop until the entire thong is covered. Make sure there are no loose pieces. Trim any excess lengths of fabric or ribbon to your liking. You can make them as full or thin as you would like, just make sure that the entire thong is covered.

You can also make a pair of flashy flops with a pair of flip flops, hot glue and rhinestones. Purchase a collection of rhinestones from your local craft store. Using a hot glue gun, glue rhinestones to the thong part of the flip flops. Do not use too much glue on the rhinestones or the hot glue will be squeezing out from under the rhinestones. Be careful not to burn yourself and be careful not to melt the thong.

These flip flops can be done for special holidays, such as the Fourth of July. Make a pair for each member of the family and get ready to make some for others as well! Once they see yours, you will be asked to make some more! Make your friends a pair for their birthday or use them as party favors at a birthday party!! You can usually buy flip flops in bulk at a great price at the end of the summer. Often times, craft stores will have ribbon and fabric on sale as well.

nice project, but the person writing this must not have actually made the flip flops with tied ribbons. You can't tie a square know with only 2 inches of ribbon!
