How to Fashionably Wear Shorts in the Fall

Lisa Riggs
Wearing shorts is a wonderful way to keep cool in the summer and also to show off tanned and toned legs. While you may be accustomed to packing away all your shorts once Autumn rolls around, this doesn't nave to be the case. If you have a few pairs of black, brown or navy colored dressy shorts, you can easily create some fun and stylish outfits with them all through the change of season. Here are some suggestions on how to keep looking great in your shorts until the first flakes of snow begin to fall.

Add a Turtleneck and Tights. You may be surprised at how great a fitted turtleneck looks with a pair of dark colored shorts. Wear a pair of dark colored tights and flats to create a monochromatic look. Be sure the turtleneck is not too baggy or the look could end up looking sloppy instead of chic. A long silver chain, silver hoop earrings and a great cocktail ring are terrific jewelry choices for this outfit.

Leather Shorts are Great for a Night on the Town. Going clubbing tonight? Dance the night away in a hip pair of leather shorts and a feminine, bohemian style blouse. Black stockings and leather booties will surely get you noticed at the bar or on the dance floor.

Wear a Fitted Tee Shirt and a Well Cut Blazer with Your Shorts. A wonderfully stylish look for a day at the office or a meeting with a client is dress shorts, tights and a fashionably cut blazer. A geometric patterned scarf adds a bit of pop to this streamlined look. If you want to keep the outfit a bit more on the conservative side, wear ballet flats or men's style oxford shoes. If your day's activities allow for a more edgy style, complete this look with biker style boots or ones that come up to the knee.

Pair Shorts with a Long Sleeved Tee. A long sleeved cotton tee shirt worn with shorts strikes the right balance between Summer and Fall. If the day is a bit on the warmer side, feel free to go barelegged with flats. If there is already a bit of a nip in the air, wear solid or patterned tights and cute ballet shoes with this outfit. Chunky beads and matching earrings or bracelet will keep a bit of the carefree feeling of Summer in your ensemble. This outfit is great for running errands or a casual day at work.

A Cozy Cardigan Works Well with Dressy Shorts. Pairing a chunky cardigan with a pair of animal print shorts looks great this time of year. Tights, heavy black boots and a large hobo bag will take you through your day cozy, comfortable and very in style. Keep your jewelery to a minimum with this outfit. A simple chain and stud earrings is all that is needed to complete this fun Fall look.

At my age, that's out of the question but I love the ideas.
