How to Make Faux Bird Nests for Craft Projects or Decoration

W.S.
You can make your own faux bird nests for craft projects or just to use as a decoration. Use this simple method to make beautiful, realistic bird nests that you will be proud to display in your home or garden.

How to Make Bird Nests - Materials Needed

You'll only need five simple materials to make bird nests that look realistic and make wonderful craft projects or decorations. First, you'll need Spanish moss which can be found at craft and hobby stores fairly easily. The amount of Spanish moss you need will depend on the size you'd like to make your bird nests.

The other materials you'll need to make bird nests are dried leaves, twigs, acrylic matte spray and adhesive spray. The leaves and twigs can be gathered from nature and the sprays can be purchased at craft and hobby stores or hardware stores.

How to Make Bird Nests - Step #1

The first step you'll take to make bird nests is to form the nest. Hollow out the center of the Spanish moss with your hands. Push the excess out toward the sides to form a bird nest shape. Shape the outside of the nest with your hands if needed.

The second step you'll take to make bird nests is to spray the nest with adhesive spray. After you've sprayed the nest thoroughly, slightly press the Spanish moss so that it adheres to itself.

How to Make Bird Nests - Step #3

The next step you'll take to make bird nests is to randomly add dried leaves and twigs. This will give the bird nests a more natural look. The leaves and twigs should adhere to the bird nests easily because of the coat of adhesive spray previously applied.

Allow the adhesive to dry completely before moving on to the next step of making bird nests. This could take several hours depending on the adhesive you've used.

How to Make Bird Nests - Step #4

The final step you'll take to make bird nests is to seal the nests. Apply the acrylic matte spray to the entire surface of the bird nests. This will seal everything and secure the bird nests.

Once you've thoroughly coated the bird nests with the acrylic spray, allow the entire thing to dry thoroughly. You've now made your own bird nests to use in craft projects or as a decoration in your home or garden.
