So, recipes and kitchens go together like well, ok I guess you get the start of this idea. Anyway, I have a few recipes that I love to make for my family and they are a great way to add a custom detail to a plain kitchen cabinet.

Basically you will be using a paint pen to write your favorite recipes on your kitchen cabinets. Don't envision slapped up writing, the professional custom kitchen cabinet look will come in how you choose to execute this project.

To make this unique idea really stand out you need to do a few things. First, you want the recipe to be written in large letters. About 4 - 6 inches tall. You can go smaller, but you should be able to stand back and read this.

The second thing to keep in mind is that you want your recipe to be art, not necessarily functional recipe printed on a small index card. So, have the words in the recipe flow from one cabinet to the next.

You should also choose a beautiful font to try and copy while applying the recipes to your kitchen cabinets. Try a beautiful cursive!

Now, the first steps is to take your level and your painter's tape and make some 4 - 6 inch lines along the whole front of your kitchen cabinets. Treat the whole row of cabinets as one piece of paper.

Press your tape into place and make sure it is level.

Now, use a pencil to carefully start writing your recipe on the kitchen cabinets. Have works flow from one cabinet to the next. Do not plan to have a word stop just because you have reached the end of the cabinet door.

Once you have finished writing your recipe on the cabinets you are ready to move on.

Break out your paint pens. I recommend silver for a modern kitchen. You can use any colors you want though! You can also use two colors of paint pens.

Use one paint pen to outline the letters. You can do this step as thick or thin as you want.

Let this dry. Now, use a second color or paint pen and outline them as well. Follow the lines slightly off center to exposed the first color of paint pen, like a shadow.

Now, you will need to keep in mind what surface your kitchen cabinets are. This simple paint pen technique will work best on painted cabinets. If your kitchen cabinets have a shiny or slick wood finish, this will not work. Also, this is very important. If your kitchen cabinets have been painted in an oil based paint you MUST use an oil based paint pen.
