How to Feed Your Kids Fast, Healthy Foods at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Laura Hetzer
A day at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom can be hectic, and kids get hungry! Once those bellies start rumbling, it's easy to give into the ice creams, hot dogs, cookies, cakes and fried foods theme parks are known for. Believe it or not, it is possible to find fast, healthy snacks for your kids at Walt Disney World, you just have to know where to look.

Frozen Treats:

Most times of the year, Orlando, Florida is baking hot and those shakes and ice creams start to look like gifts from heaven! My family has a rule of only one Mickey's Premium Ice Cream Bar per vacation, not only for the sake of my kids but also my own waistline! We've usually filled our quota by our first or second day at Walt Disney World, but once noon hits in the Magic Kingdom we're all dreaming of something cold and sweet again.

Don't worry, the Magic Kingdom is full of lower fat and sugar options for just such an emergency. Auntie Gravity's Goodies in Tomorrowland offers great fruit smoothies in various flavors (strawberry banana, orange pineapple and tropical fruit) for $3.99. Although the sugar content is not spectacular, all the smoothies are made with low fat yogurt for that real ice cream feel. Sunshine Tree Terrace in Adventureland offers an Orange Slush for $3.29, which is just frozen orange juice, no fat to worry about at all. And, it's not a real Florida vacation, Walt Disney World or not, if you don't have at least one glass of orange juice Our favorite healthy frozen treat surprisingly comes from the Walt Disney World Ice Cream Carts, which you can find peppered all over the Magic Kingdom. Among the other treats they sell is the sugar free strawberry bar for $2.50. It's cold, it's sweet, it's convenient and it's much healthier than other ice cream options. Best of all, another hour or so walking around the Magic Kingdom and you've just about burned it off!

Full Kids Meals:

I don't know if it's the way we do the parks, but we always hit Frontierland right around lunchtime on our Magic Kingdom days. Unless we've already planned a full sit down lunch, we usually grab a quick bite at Pecos Bill's Tall Tale Inn and Cafe's counter service restaurant. One of the best things about Pecos Bill's is the great kids meals they offer. For $3.99 your kids under 9 can get chicken nuggets or a garden salad with chicken and their choice of two sides: grapes, applesauce and carrot sticks. I don't know if it's the heat at Walt Disney World or what, but my kids almost always choose the salad with the grapes and carrot sticks. Also included are the kid's drinks, and they can choose from milk, apple juice or a small bottled water. If only I could get them to eat this healthy at home!

The Healthiest Snacks in Walt Disney World

You have to love Walt Disney World, they put the healthiest snack stand in all of the Magic Kingdom smack in the middle of the place small kids love best, Mickey's Toontown. The Toontown Farmer's Market carries fresh apples, oranges and bananas for $.99, bunches of grapes for $3.29, a $2.99 fruit cup and a yogurt cup for $1.99. We hit this every time we're in Toontown and grab a banana for each of the kids, a mess-free portable fruit it seems nature designed for walking around theme parks. It fills up their bellies and keeps them from snacking on less healthy foods and gives them plenty of energy to get through the day. Especially if you have very small children, the Toontown Farmer's Market can be a lifesaver. I usually grab a banana here as well, because I don't want my Walt Disney World Vacation to completely destroy my diet!

Keep your kids healthy, happy and full of energy at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom by seeking out these quick snack options. You and your kids will feel so much better on your vacation.

Excellent article! I was in Disney World about a year and a half ago with the kids. While we don't allow the kids to binge on sweets, we don't monitor as well as you do. We just didn't realize there were so many healthy options. Thanks for the tips!
