The simplest way you can go about feeding your hungry Neopets is by taking a visit to the Soup Faerie's kitchen. Located in the Neopian Marketplace, the kind Soup Faerie is willing to feed all of your Neopets for free whenever you stop by. The catch? She only feeds Neopets whose owners have less than 3,000 neopoints (total). The only way around this is to buy a very rare and expensive item (such as a paintbrush) and keep it in your Safety Deposit Box while you go an feed your Neopets (admittedly, this is a rather lazy way of feeding your pets, but effective nonetheless).
The Money Tree is also an excellent source of freebies, be it neopoints or food items. With so many members logged in at any given time of day, it may be hard to rely on the Money Tree as your number one source of food for your Neopets, but it's worth a try either way. It's free, after all.
The Healing Springs faerie sometimes quells your Neopets' appetites as well, at no charge to you. The added benefit of using the Healing Springs is that she also helps them regain their hit points or sometimes gives you a healing potion (which you can sell or trade for food).
The Giant Omelette and Giant Jelly are two more sources of free food. You may visit each one once per day and grab a slice of each. Omelettes are eaten in thirds, while jellies are divided in halves. Know how much your omelettes are worth before feeding them to your Neopets; sometimes a rare omelette can be sold for a lot of neopoints, allowing you to buy several cheaper omelettes for your Neopets (the quality of the food that goes in doesn't affect their appetite; just so long as they get enough). Also, be sure you don't feed your Neopets the Rotten Omelette or Poisonous Jelly; each of these has seriously damaging effects on your Neopets!
Site sponsors sometimes offer free food or a certain number of neopoints for doing simple tasks, such as filling out a quick survey or going through a series of advertisements. Annoying though they may be, they still offer you a chance to feed your Neopets for little or no cost to you.
Finally, the easiest way to not only feed your pets but ensure that they are properly cared for is setting them up in a room at the Neolodge. Even just one night in the lowest-quality hotel (5 neopoints total) will leave your Neopets' appetite status: "bloated." The longer the stay, the higher the cost, but at least you won't need to worry about feeding your pets all the time. If you want the extra amenities, then that's fine, but they will be fed even if you go for the bare minimum.
Feeding your Neopets isn't really that hard, it just takes some creativity and skillful navigation of Neopets.com to find the hidden treasures lurking around the site. Neopets can't die, so feeding them isn't absolutely necessary, but it is certainly looked down upon if you neglect them, since caring for your Neopets is the very basis for the game.
